After 160 years of growing seasons, Gundlach Bundschu stands as California’s oldest family-owned winery. Their great wine and not-stuffy attitude have made them a local hero. Current owner Jeff Bundschu wanted to take the brand national but didn’t know what that meant to the modern-day consumer.

The first thing we did was change the name. Gundlach Bundschu is a real mouthful. It’s also a hard sell when your wine sounds like Scottish/German fusion. So we got them to adopt the more pronounceable “GunBun” as a business nickname to aid awareness for the venerable, well-known estate wine.

The brand story followed with a carefully presented curation of their heritage in language, photography, and design (they had a lot of brand stuff piled up in their archive) as we modernized the offering for today’s wine consumer.
